Joseph
Perrier Champagne from Champers Limited
To
give Champers clients a balanced list, we have included in
our range of branded champagnes some of the champagnes of Joseph
Perrier, including as a top quality vintage
champagne, the exceptional Joseph Perrier Cuvée Royale
brut 1996
Joseph Perrier, a respected Grande Marque champagne house, was
established in 1825 and is based in Chalons en Champagne . It
draws its grapes from top Marne Valley vineyards in Hautvilliers,
Cumieres and Damary. It enjoys a considerable reputation among champagne cognoscenti, but limited production and stocks mean that it has no need to over promote itself.

Champers now provides the Cuvée Royale non vintage champagne in bottles, half bottles and magnums - and the noted 1996 vintage in bottles.
The style of this well respected House, is of consistency, producing champagne with rich creamy fruit and a noted capacity to age well; these champagnes generally turn biscuity when mature.
Champagne Vintage 1996
While most champagnes
are a blend of the produce of several years, vintage champagne
is the wine of a single year. 1996 was one of the three best
years for champagne since the war, no late frosts troubled
the budding vines and the summer was hot with enough moisture
to allow the grapes to develop, yet retain a good level of
acidity. Rated 19 out of a maximum 20 by Hachette, the 1996
vintage was described by Juhlin as one of the best vintages
ever and by Parker as a “superb
vintage with fresh acidity and consistent flavour”
Vintage champagne should be drunk a couple of degrees less
chilled than non vintage, so that none of the depth of flavour
is masked
